| At North Idaho Search Dogs, we take the task of training reliable search and rescue dogs very seriously. Professionalism and strict standards are the hallmark of this organization. As you may have read on previous pages of this website, handlers with NISD lay a strong foundation for their dog's search training with proper socialization, obedience, and agility work. Once search training begins, it takes diligent and consistent training to have a mission ready search dog. Before a dog can test to become mission ready, they must first obtain AKC's K-9 Good Citizen certificate. For a wilderness dog/handler team to become mission ready they must obtain a NASAR, K-9 SARTEC II or higher certification. Donations given to NISD and money from T-shirt sales are put toward ongoing education for both our dogs and handlers. Unfortunately there are no national legal standards that govern the training of search and rescue dogs. At North Idaho Search Dogs we strive to hold ourselves and our dogs to the highest possible standards. |
